Engadget on the iPad 2, iPhone 5 and Apple TV
nikf:
I’m not normally one to post rumour links and the like, but as I’m eagerly awaiting the iPad 2 (having skipped the original) this piqued my interest.
An SD slot would make the iPad a highly mobile digital darkroom with no need for wires, but it would definitely need the boost from the rumored dual-core A5, extra memory, and an improved GPU to handle RAW files from DSLRs — moreso if the iPad’s display goes to Retina resolution. If this is what Apple is thinking, don’t be surprised if they start selling Aperture for iPad.
My iPad copes just fine with 14MP RAWs taken from my Panasonic GF1 via the camera connection kit. It doesn’t do anything to the RAW part, I think; it might be using the JPG preview baked into the RAW (which is smaller, but still a lot more pixels than the iPad’s screen). Some sort of Aperture for iPad sidekick app that does proofing, rating, and tagging makes so much sense that I’m angry it doesn’t exist yet.
