Those are my feet, and those of a friend, stood on the glass floor of the Spinnaker Tower (which looks like this from the outside). It’s a tourist attraction on the waterfront in Portsmouth, standing about 170m (560ft) tall. It is the tallest structure open to the public anywhere in the UK outside London. The lower of the three observation decks — which is around 100m/320ft up — has the largest observation glass floor in Europe.
I was totally unprepared for what it would feel like to stand on this very very clear glass and look down at the distant floor beneath my feet. On the left hand side of the plaza, the tiny row of brownish dots are actually chairs, to give a sense of scale (the fullsize version on flickr might help). It definitely induces some dizziness, and mild panic as your body grapples to understand that it’s not going to fall; one of my friends, after a minute or so, suddenly stumbled and had to grab the handrail.
Entry wasn’t cheap (£7) but if you are ever in that part of the world I highly recommend the experience.
