Has anyone else noticed a lot of this recently?
I’m guessing some spammer has figured out that, as most Tumblr themes will display links to everyone who has “Liked” each post, they have an injection vector for their URLs into trusted pages. I’d imagine the objective is to game Google’s Pagerank algorithm, or similar, by making it see lots of links to the spammer’s content from non-spammer pages (i.e. innocent tumblogs). Thus it’ll score the spam content more highly. At present, however, non of the spammer Tumblr accounts I’ve checked have anything on them. Curious that they have that rather giveaway “seo” naming scheme, too.
Tumblr seem to be aware of this; sometimes those suspicious “Likes” disappear as they are deleted. However, more seem to be popping up as fast as they are taken down.
Annoying.
