Eatbabe.co.uk (yes, really) is a farm-to-table smallholding which allows you to adopt a newborn piglet, visit it during its (free range, ultra-organic) upbringing — and then, after slaughter, receive the whole pig butchered to your specification. They say you get 90-110 pounds of meat for around £300, which is a very good deal. Very clever domain name too.
Despite the seemingly callous and distasteful nature of this service, I think if you don’t make the decision to be vegetarian then you should at least try to respect and face up to the fact that a part of your diet came from animals that died to supply it. It’s too easy to stand in a supermarket’s fresh meat aisle, looking at row after row of homogenous pre-packed steaks, chicken breast fillets, and minced beef and conveniently forget that these neat little portions came from living and breathing creatures.
