“United Breaks Guitars” [4:36, music video.]
This is what happens when you piss off a Canadian.
He writes a (funny) pop song. And promises two more:
From his website
In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely damaged. They didn’t deny the experience occurred but for nine months the various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say “no” to compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2 has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I promise.
(There’s a longer version of the story on his website)
This video has gotten so popular that United has contacted him with another offer of compensation.
But it’s too late.
He’s not accepting what amounts to a bribe to stop the bad publicity.
He suggest it they donate it to a charity of their choice in the 1m15s followup video he posted.

If you would like to post on Twitter about this, please use the short URL http://bit.ly/rI2ef which will point people to the YouTube video.
You can Post This to Twitter (you’ll have a chance to review/edit before it is posted, it will just auto-fill the link and “United Breaks Guitars”). None of this points to my site. If you want to reblog or point people here, fine but I want to see the hit count on that YouTube page skyrocket (currently 2,449,933 views in 6 days)
Fucking airlines don’t give two shits about people and (as he says) the whole “appeal” process is designed to frustrate people into giving up. That sucks.
