Habitat in row over Twitter usage
This is splendid (disclaimer, splendidness not a guarantee). Habitat - a furniture store in the UK - were spamming their official Twitter account with advertising links… and adding trending topics tags automatically to attract hits. So, for example, they advertised their new Spring catalog with #iPhone, a sale with #Iran, or how about this doozy: “HabitatUK: #Mousavi Join the database for free to win a £1000 gift card”. Yes, the same Iran where protestors are dying, and the same Mousavi who is the opposition leader there.
They’ve deleted the ridiculous tweets now but the article has plenty more examples. This’ll only be the PR disaster Habitat richly deserves if people know, so: spread the word.
