Jail for parents who allowed daughter to die →
A couple who failed to seek medical treatment for their baby daughter, who was severely ill with eczema before an infection killed her, wept in the dock today as they were jailed for her manslaughter.
Thomas Sam, 42, and his wife Manju, 37, were convicted in the NSW Supreme Court over the death of nine-month-old Gloria, with a jury accepting they were guilty of criminal negligence. Sentencing...

A London food diary of my weekend:
Friday afternoon — club sandwich from Marks & Spencers at Reading services
Friday evening — wine and mojitos, in bulk
Friday night — pizza with @grimdotdotdot (plus mozzarella sticks and jalapeño poppers, he has reminded me)
Saturday morning, 6am — leftover pizza
Saturday mid-morning — bacon and egg bagel from London Bridge...
An actual Out Of Office email I just received from...
I am currently out of the office, returning on Monday 28th September. Some Guy (someguy@somecompany.net) is the contact point for all Tactical Change Management activities in my absence. Please note; individual Quick Win queries should be directed to the relevant Delivery Lead as per normal.
Naturally I’ll be setting him on fire next time I see him.

The first messages sent out via the telephone, IM, Twitter, and other advances in communication.
First telegraph: “What hath God wrought?”
First tweet: “just setting up my twttr”
Heh. They get progressively less profound.
Friday night
What mainstream society demands I do tonight:
Go out.
Get wasted.
Desperately seek a mate so I don’t die alone and unloved.
What I’m going to do:
Stay in.
Eat fancy pants Marks & Spencers food (“Oakham Chicken, Wiltshire ham, and leek pie” — unnamed leeks letting the side down there).
Play with my dogs.
Play the drums.
Drink Skittles vodka and maybe...
Domestic Violence Is a Pre-Existing Condition in...
whileyouweresleeping:
In nine states, it is perfectly acceptable to deny someone of insurance if they’re being beaten up by their partner.* It qualifies as a pre-existing condition.
So if you live in Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Wyoming or Washington, DC, and if you are being abused by your spouse, you will not be covered....

(Samsung LN40B650 …maybe)
I have that exact TV (well, the UK version, LE40B650). It’s bloody brilliant. Also consider the ‘550 if you don’t care about the 100Hz mode, the ability to play AVIs/MKVs/etc from USB connected disks, and want to save a few bucks.

The story is this: a girl was out with friends having drinks on King St (in Toronto ). This guy approaches her and won’t leave her alone -saying how cute she is. She finally gives in and hands the guy her business card to get rid of him.
The attached is an MP3 file of not one, but TWO voicemails this guy left.
It’s so good.

Train journey
insooutso:
sniffyjenkins:
I will be sitting on this train for the next two hours. One of the things that will keep me from eating my own hand is the fact that I now have my very own portmanteau, courtesy of the delightful Permenter, who created it last night to describe a person with my very specific ethnic background.
Laydeez an’ gennlemen, may I therefore present myself, Sniffy Jenkins.
I...
Making Skittles vodka in words and pictures →
It was all Matt’s fault. Skittles and vodka, together at last. Toby and I decided we had to try this for ourselves. At 4:55pm the suggestion was made; by 5:15pm we were back from Asda.

This might be the greatest computer game trailer ever. And yes, it’s an official Ubisoft one, not a fan-made job.
